MEET LAWRENCE
Lawrence Dupre represents Erie County’s 1st Legislative District. A long time resident of Buffalo’s East Side, Dupre is a proud product of Buffalo public schools. He is also a devoted father to a daughter who recently graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Prior to becoming a Legislator, Dupre gained valuable experience in the public sector working for Lovejoy Councilmember Bryan Bollman as his Senior Legislative Assistant. During that time, he was responsible for constituent services and was most proud of his work on behalf of seniors and veterans.
In 2022, Mr. Dupre joined Erie County’s Central Police Services as a Community Coordinator, where his primary responsibility was leading the Gun Violence Task Force. He focused on youth involvement and community education, ensuring that more voices were heard in shaping programs and policies. He also worked with the Sheriff’s Office to distribute gun locks and secured funding to expand summer programs for at-risk youth. Dupre developed relationships with counterparts in Monroe and Onondaga counties in order to foster collaboration and share ideas rather than just competing for the same pool of resources.
Dupre plans to continue his work to prevent gun violence in our community by amplifying programs and the resources available. He acknowledges the progress made since the tragic events of May 14, but recognizes that there is still more work to be done.
Legislator Dupre believes that the Erie County Legislature needs to bring in new ideas, listen to its constituents, and act with transparency and accountability. He is dedicated to serving the community, amplifying their voices, and making Erie County a stronger, more inclusive place. He looks forward to working with everyone to achieve a shared vision for Erie County as a place that is a safe, welcoming place to live and work.
